Sonja Kälin is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lucerne in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, working under Prof. Dr. Gisela Michel since November 2022. Her current research examines legal, financial, and insurance-related hardships experienced by childhood cancer survivors.
Her academic background includes a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Bern, where she specialized in Developmental Psychology and Neuropsychology. Her master's thesis investigated cognitive development and brain activation differences between very preterm and term-born adolescents at Inselspital Bern. From 2016 to 2022, she worked at the Department of Developmental Psychology at the University of Bern as a research assistant and PhD student, exploring conceptual and developmental associations between self-regulation constructs including temperamental effortful control, executive functions, metacognition, and persistence.
Dr. Kälin's research spans Developmental Psychology, Self-Regulation, Neuropsychology, Executive Functions, and Childhood Cancer Survivorship. Her work bridges psychological development with practical healthcare challenges, particularly in pediatric oncology survivorship contexts.
