Sonja Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Religion at Carleton University. Her academic work spans ancient Christianity and Judaism, with a focus on religious violence, gender dynamics in Catholicism, apocalyptic themes, and intersections between religion and medicine.

Her research interrogates how ancient Christian and Jewish communities constructed identity through critiques of idolatry, as detailed in her forthcoming book Idol Talk: False Worship in the Early Christian World (Edinburgh University Press). She also investigates modern Catholic publishing trends in America.
A Benedictine oblate of Saint John’s Abbey, she joined Carleton in 2016 and emphasizes collaborative engagement with students and colleagues.
