Sonja Ammann is a full Professor of Old Testament Studies at the Faculty of Theology, University of Basel, where she has worked since 2017 and currently serves as Dean of Research. Her academic career includes a doctoral degree from the University of Göttingen (2014) and prior research associate work at Humboldt University Berlin (2012–2017).
- Research focus: War and collective violence in the Old Testament, Babylonian Exile, historiography, discourse theory, and Second Temple literature
- Key projects: SNSF Eccellenza project Transforming Memories of Collective Violence in the Hebrew Bible (2019–2024), ongoing Dissertation Dirnberger project (2023–present)
Her publications examine cultural trauma in biblical contexts, with recent works including The Broken Mirror (2024). She collaborates with the Research Group CORPUS and contributes to the Theological Journal Basel. Contact: sonja.ammann@unibas.ch
