Dr Sonia Fernandez is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Western Australia (UWA), specializing in clinical immunology and human disease principles. She holds a PhD from UWA and is actively involved in research on HIV immunology, cancer immunotherapy, and educational pedagogy. Her teaching roles include coordinating units such as PATH2220 (Introduction to Human Disease) and PATH5141 (Clinical Immunology), alongside lecturing in pathology and laboratory medicine.
Dr Fernandez's research focuses on the immunological aspects of HIV disease and anti-retroviral therapy, with recent work exploring natural killer cell therapy for leukemia and B cell responses to vaccination. She has secured grants including the MRF-UWA Bridging Fellowship and led projects on HIV immune responses. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education.
