Songyao Ren

Songyao Ren is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and History of Ideas at the University of Texas at Dallas, affiliated with the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Duke University (2021), an M.A. in East Asian Literatures and Cultures from Columbia University (2016), and a B.J. in Journalism from The University of Hong Kong (2014).

Dr. Ren's research specializes in Chinese philosophy, ethics, and moral psychology, with particular focus on emotion theory, self-cultivation, and comparative philosophical traditions. His work examines concepts like emotional resilience, autonoetic consciousness, and philosophical ideals of being through cross-cultural frameworks.

His publications explore themes of emotion, selfhood, and ethical development across philosophical traditions, particularly examining Daoist perspectives on emotional experience and philosophical psychology.
