Dr. Wong Kwok Kui is an Associate Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University with advanced degrees in Philosophy (PhD, University of Tübingen) and Comparative Literature (M.Phil., University of Hong Kong). His interdisciplinary research bridges Western and Eastern philosophical traditions, focusing on Nietzsche, Schelling, hermeneutics, theatre aesthetics, and comparative philosophy. He actively contributes to both academic scholarship and creative practice as a published playwright.
His research explores fundamental questions in philosophy through cross-cultural lenses, including:
- Comparative analyses of German idealism (Kant, Hegel, Schelling) and Daoist philosophy
- Hermeneutic approaches to time and symbolic processes
- The intersection of poetics, theatre, and philosophical aesthetics
- Reinterpretations of classical texts across cultural boundaries
Dr. Wong teaches diverse humanities courses including Chinese and Western Modes of Thought, Introduction to the Art of Theatre, and Great Works in the Humanities, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary education.
As a playwright, he has staged over ten original works that reinterpret classical texts from Greek tragedy to Brecht, published in the collection New Chapters: Rewriting Classics from Greek Tragedy to Brecht Locally (2013).
