Soner Baskaya is a Professor of Economics at the University of Glasgow's Adam Smith Business School. He previously held senior roles at the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), including Deputy General Manager of the Research Department and General Manager of Communications and Foreign Relations. He served during Turkey's G20 Presidency in 2015. His academic affiliations include teaching positions at Brown University, London School of Economics, Dartmouth College, Bilkent University, and Middle East Technical University. He holds a BA from Boğaziçi University, MSc from Middle East Technical University, and MA/PhD from Brown University.
His research focuses on Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Central Banking, and Financial Stability. He explores topics like macroprudential policies, sovereign risk transmission, and global financial systems. Notable recent work includes analysis of capital flow management effectiveness and geopolitical risk impacts on financial policies.
Recent publications (2022–2025) emphasize macroprudential policy design, sovereign risk dynamics, and banking sector resilience. His work bridges academic rigor with policy relevance, particularly in emerging markets. He co-edited the CBT Economic Notes and Central Bank Review (2009–2016).
