Sondre Lindahl

Sondre Lindahl is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Technology and Communication, Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences. His primary research focuses on terrorism, counter-terrorism strategies, security policy, and international relations. He holds a PhD from the University of Otago (New Zealand) in Peace and Conflict Studies, an MSc in Terrorism and International Relations from Aberystwyth University (UK), and a BSc in Society, Language, and Culture from Østfold University College (Norway).

Research Interests: Lindahl’s work critically evaluates counter-terrorism policies and their societal impacts, emphasizing non-violent alternatives and ethical considerations. He explores topics such as radicalization prevention, normativity in terrorism studies, and the intersection of technology with security governance. Recent projects include analyzing the role of digital society in trust dynamics and democratic processes, as seen in his co-edited book Trust under Threat: Challenges in a Digital Society (2024).

Publications: Lindahl has authored and co-authored numerous articles and books, including A Critical Theory of Counterterrorism: Ontology, Epistemology, and Normativity (2018) and a recent book on practical counter-terrorism strategies Kampen mot terrorisme: Strategier for bekjempelse (2023). His work appears in journals like Critical Studies on Terrorism and Bezpieczeństwo. Teoria i Praktyka.

Media Engagement: Lindahl frequently contributes expert analysis to Norwegian and international media, including TV2, NRK, and Dagbladet, addressing contemporary security issues such as the Magdeburg attack (2024) and Eurovision security risks. He co-hosts the political science podcast SOS and produces episodes on AI’s impact on societal values.

Teaching: Lindahl teaches courses on international politics, counter-terrorism, and the role of social media in propaganda. Upcoming courses include International Relations (Spring 2025) and Propaganda in the Era of Social Media (Fall 2024).
