Sonali Nag

Dr. Sonali Nag is Professor of Psychology and Education at the University of Oxford and Supernumerary Fellow in Education at Brasenose College. Her research examines child learning across diverse settings, focusing on languages, writing systems, cultural contexts, and socioeconomic status. She leads the Language, Cognition and Development Research Theme and convenes the Child Development and Learning Research Group.

Her work explores language and literacy development in multilingual contexts like India (Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Hindi), with ongoing projects in education emergencies, social-emotional learning, and school interventions. She contributes to education policy reforms and curriculum development for early childhood education.

Featured publications analyze home learning environments in LMICs, corpus construction for understudied languages, and literacy development through sociocultural lenses. Her research synthesizes evidence to inform theory and practice across diverse educational contexts.
