Dr. Meghna Nag Chowdhuri is a Senior Research Fellow at the IOE (Institute of Education), University College London, within the Department of Education, Practice and Society. She holds multiple professional appointments including UCL Public Policy Knowledge Broker Academy Fellow (2024-2025), IOE Early Career Impact Fellow (2021-2022), and member of the British Academy ECR Network Steering Committee (2023-present).
Her educational background includes a PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge (2020), where her research explored how primary school teachers in Delhi interpret and use reformed mathematics textbooks designed to make mathematics inclusive. This foundational work established her expertise in curriculum implementation and equity-focused pedagogy.
Dr. Nag Chowdhuri's research focuses on educational inequalities in STEM education globally, examining how pedagogical approaches and curricular changes can disrupt persistent patterns of inequity. Her work spans primary science and mathematics education, STEM practitioner research, teacher professional development for equity, international education and development, and the sociology of STEM education. She takes a social justice perspective in her research, emphasizing the importance of culturally sustaining pedagogy and equitable learning environments. Her research has evolved from the Primary Science Capital Teaching Approach project (2019-2022) to her current leadership of the international Making Spaces project.
She has developed several practical frameworks and tools including the Science Capital Teaching Approach and the Making Spaces project's 3-STEP Approach, which have been translated into multiple languages (Arabic, Nepali, Slovenian) for international application. Her research has significant policy implications, with collaborations including the World Bank Group and various international educational organizations.

As an educator, Dr. Nag Chowdhuri leads the undergraduate module 'Young People and Technology' for the BA Youth, Society and Sustainable Futures program and serves as a guest lecturer on inequalities in STEM education for various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. She supervises MA students in Social Justice and Education and is currently co-supervising two PhD students. Her teaching reflects her research interests, focusing on technology's role in young people's lives and educational equity.
Dr. Nag Chowdhuri leads the Making Spaces research project, an international collaboration between seven Makerspaces across five countries (UK, USA, Nepal, Palestine, and Slovenia). This project develops tools like the Equitable Youth Outcomes Framework and Quick Check Surveys to measure and promote equity in informal STEM learning environments, with a particular focus on supporting diverse young people across different cultural contexts.
