Sonal N. Kamat

Dr. Sonal N. Kamat is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Division of Community Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She practices as a pathologist at both UPMC Mercy and UPMC St. Margaret hospitals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kamat is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as in Cytopathology. Her clinical expertise lies in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology, with significant contributions to laboratory information systems for quality assurance in pathology reporting.

Her research spans multiple areas including medical education innovations, particularly in near-peer teaching methodologies following the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as investigations into hereditary cancer syndromes and demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. Dr. Kamat completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency and fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at UPMC Presby/Shadyside/Magee.
