Payam Arya

Dr. Payam Arya serves as an Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Division of Community Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He holds dual leadership positions as Medical Director and Chairman of the Pathology Department at UPMC McKeesport, where he also practices as a clinical pathologist.

Dr. Arya is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology, as well as Cytopathology. His clinical expertise centers on anatomical and clinical pathology with subspecialty training in surgical pathology (Mayo Clinic Fellowship) and cytopathology (UPMC fellowship).

His primary research interests include exfoliative cytology, aspiration cytology, and gastrointestinal pathology. Recent publications demonstrate expanding research into atherosclerosis, viral infections including Monkeypox Virus, skin microbiome in psoriasis, Mycoplasma genitalium therapeutics, and glioblastoma management. His scholarly output shows consistent activity across multiple pathology domains with publications spanning from 2008 to present.

Dr. Arya's clinical and research work demonstrates expertise in diagnostic pathology with particular strength in cytological examinations and complex case analysis. His publication record indicates active collaboration across multiple medical specialties including oncology, dermatology, virology, and immunology.
