Prof. Sonal Choudhary is a Chair in Sustainable Management at the University of York's School for Business and Society. Previously, she held senior roles at The Sheffield University Management School, including Head of the Operations Management & Decision Sciences Research Centre. She specializes in sustainable food systems, resilient supply chains, and interdisciplinary policy-research integration.
Education: PhD in Environmental Sustainability (University of Sheffield, 2014), MSc in GIS & Environmental Modelling (University of Hull, Distinction), MSc in Environmental Biology (University of Delhi, Distinction). Awards include the Gold Medallist in Environmental Biology, Marie Curie ITN Fellowship, and recognition as a 'Climate Leader' by Al Gore.
Research focuses on food systems resilience, digital innovations in agriculture, and circular economy practices. Key projects include the £1.2m STFC Food Network+ Phase 2 and £0.84m TRANSSITioN project addressing food chain sustainability in India. She advises major organizations like Tesco on Net Zero initiatives and collaborates with global stakeholders in food, energy, and policy sectors.
Grants: Over £12m secured from UKRI, STFC, and international bodies. Leads interdisciplinary teams in food systems research, including the H3 project on healthy soils and food systems. Supervises PhD students and chairs expert groups on sustainable food systems.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Sustainable Agri-food integrated VAlue chain Network (SAVAN), STFC Food Network+, and collaborates with the Institute for Sustainable Food and Advanced Resource Efficiency Centre (AREC).
