Somwrita Sarkar is an Associate Professor at the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney. She leads the Urban Science Lab and is a member of the Transport Lab, Urban Housing Lab, Smart Urbanism Lab, and the Centre for Complex Systems. Her research focuses on urban socio-economic inequalities, spatial data science, and urban policy, employing methods from geography, economics, physics, and complex systems science.
Her work includes projects such as tracking urban expansion in India using satellite imagery and analyzing Airbnb's impact on rental markets. She serves on the editorial boards of Environment and Planning B and Urban Findings. Key grants include a UN-SDG collaboration project with IIT Bombay and AHURI-funded studies on housing supply and population projections.
