Somer Chyz is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Accounting & Information Management at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business. She joined the institution in 2013 after a legal career spanning commercial litigation, white-collar prosecution, and criminal defense. Previously, she served as a Staff Attorney at the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Legal Clinic, defending indigent and juvenile clients.

Her teaching focuses on Business Law for MBA and undergraduate students. Research interests include intersections of legal practice with business ethics and compliance, informed by her dual background in law and academia.
Notable recognitions include the CALI Excellence Award for Trial Practice and All-Ivy honors in tennis during her undergraduate years. She remains affiliated with the Knoxville Bar Association (2011–2014).
