Dr Soma Meran is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Cardiff University, with dual appointments as Honorary Consultant Nephrologist at Cardiff and Vale Health Board and Aneurin Bevan Health Board. Her career balances clinical nephrology with academic research, focusing on renal fibrosis and extracellular matrix regulation.

Research centers on hyaluronan as a key regulator of renal fibrosis, with translational applications in acute kidney injury and peritoneal dialysis. Her work extends to cardiorenal syndrome and COVID-19 vaccine responses in renal patients.
Recent publications highlight her group's contributions to renal ischemia models, hyaluronan metabolism, and fibrosis reversal through novel molecular targets. As an educator, she leads undergraduate renal medicine training and supervises research students.
