Solomon Mensah is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His primary research focuses on understanding the role of vascular endothelial glycocalyx in cardiopulmonary diseases, developing therapeutic strategies for pulmonary vascular regeneration, and creating medical devices for low- and middle-income countries.
- Education: Postdoctoral Fellow at WPI (2020), Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Northeastern University (2019), B.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from City College of New York (2014), and HND in Mechanical Engineering from Takoradi Technical University, Ghana (2004).
His research combines in vitro and in vivo techniques to study mechanical forces on vascular endothelial cells, aiming to regenerate pulmonary vasculature during disease progression. He also leads global health initiatives at Therapeutic Innovations Inc., focusing on medical device innovation for underserved regions.
- Awards: Elected Fellow of the American Heart Association (2025).
Professor Mensah collaborates on projects like the WPI High School Biomedical Engineering Experience program and has been recognized as part of WPI’s 2021 cohort of new faculty hires.
