Sol De Jesus, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Chief of the Division of Movement Disorders at Penn State Neuroscience Institute. She serves as co-director for the deep brain stimulation (DBS) program at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where she maintains an active clinical practice focused on movement disorders and DBS management.
Dr. De Jesus is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (2014). Her educational background includes:

Dr. De Jesus is passionate about improving care for patients with movement disorders through both clinical practice and research. Her primary research interests focus on deep brain stimulation (DBS), particularly understanding the underlying mechanisms and patient-related factors that influence DBS outcomes. She actively serves as principal and co-investigator on multiple clinical trials involving parkinsonian patients.
Her clinical expertise encompasses deep brain stimulation (all indications) and other advanced therapies; Parkinson's disease; essential tremor; dystonia; Botulinum toxin injection; and other movement disorders.
Dr. De Jesus has received recognition for her teaching excellence, including the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching in both 2019 and 2022. Her scholarly work spans movement disorders research, healthcare management, and studies on gender equity in academic neurology.
She has been actively involved in research examining motor and non-motor aspects of deep brain stimulation as it pertains to various movement disorders. Her recent publications demonstrate a diverse research portfolio that includes clinical studies on Parkinson's disease progression, analyses of healthcare utilization in neurological disease, and investigations into gender and racial diversity in academic neurology.
Dr. De Jesus contributes to work aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to health and well-being.
