Sohvi Kangasluoma is a Senior Researcher at the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, affiliated with the Department of Arctic Politics and Development. Her research focuses on Arctic critical ocean studies, posthuman feminist methodologies, fossil fuel industries, and extractivism. She holds a Researcher academic rank and has been actively involved in international collaborations since 2020.
Key research interests include planetary approaches to Arctic governance, multispecies security frameworks, and climate change impacts on Arctic maritime routes. Her work bridges political science, geography, and environmental humanities to address fossil fuel dependency and coastal state dynamics in the Arctic.
Kangasluoma leads two major projects: POST-Bothnia (2023-2027) exploring water relations in the Bothnian Bay, and Planetocene2050 (2023-2027) rethinking Arctic geopolitics through planetary lenses. Recent publications emphasize autoethnographic航海 studies and fossil fuel critique in The Arctic Institute and peer-reviewed journals.
Her recent activities include organizing the Politiikan tutkimuksen päivät 2025 conference and presenting at global forums on climate security and ocean-centric governance. Media engagements include High North News and YLE features on Arctic navigation and environmental ethics.
