Sofia Quiroga Fernandez is a Lecturer in Architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture, Manchester Metropolitan University. She holds a PhD from Madrid Polytechnic University, focusing on the intersection of visual, technological, and cultural innovations in architectural discourses. Her research explores topics such as industrial light, technified images, and the legacy of figures like Moholy-Nagy. She has taught at CEU San Pablo University (Madrid) and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (China), and has been a guest lecturer at UAM and ETSAM. Fernandez has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and authored works on architectural pedagogy, urban analysis, and historical design technologies.
Her research interests span architectural history, visual culture, urban studies, and educational pedagogy. Notable works include analyses of Kowloon Walled City’s social dynamics, the role of panoramas and dioramas in architectural experience, and the preservation of Moholy-Nagy’s Light Prop for an Electric Stage. Fernandez has also contributed to design education through workshops and studies on collaborative learning methods.
Her publications include chapters in journals such as International Panorama Council Journal and Constelaciones, as well as conference papers on urban sociology and historical architectural spaces. She has received awards for her architectural work and continues to engage with interdisciplinary collaborations.
