Isabel Boggs-Fernandez is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). She is a licensed landscape architect and urban designer with over 20 years of combined academic and professional experience. She co-founded KornerLot Design + Development LLC, a multidisciplinary design practice based in Ithaca, NY, and is actively involved in teaching, design, writing, and entrepreneurship.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) from Cornell University and a Master of Landscape Architecture II (MLA II) from Cornell. She has previously served as an Assistant Professor at SUNY ESF in Syracuse. Her academic and professional work is deeply rooted in the Finger Lakes region, drawing inspiration from its natural and cultural landscapes.
Isabel's research and design interests focus on public space, urban design, landscape architecture, and visual communication in planning. Through her collaborative practice, she explores interdisciplinary design across scales—from urban interventions to furniture and lighting. She is currently finalizing the Spanish translation of her forthcoming book 78 Plazas, which examines Puerto Rican plazas as cultural and spatial typologies. Her recent venture, Ithaca Lights, reflects her ongoing engagement with design for everyday life.
While no scientific awards are individually listed, her firm, KornerLot, has received multiple awards for design excellence. She contributes to academic instruction through courses like Graphic Communication and international planning workshops at Cornell, emphasizing practical and visual tools for planners.
Isabel is also engaged in entrepreneurial advising through her short-term rental business (FLX Visit) and design consultancy. She collaborates with her partner Zac Boggs on academic, professional, and commercial projects, maintaining strong ties to both Cornell and the Ithaca design community. She is involved in community-building efforts through local retail and public space advocacy.
