Sofia Origanti, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Saint Louis University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on nucleic acid signaling mechanisms, particularly ribosomal homeostasis, translation initiation, and the interplay between nucleolar stress and genomic stability. She investigates how dysregulation of these processes contributes to cancers, ribosomopathies, and inherited disorders. Her lab employs multidisciplinary approaches including cellular and biochemical assays, organoids, and mouse models, collaborating with experts in biophysics and genetics.
Origanti holds a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and maintains affiliations with the Siteman Cancer Center and professional societies such as ASBMB, AACR, and the RNA Society. She serves on the editorial board of Scientific Reports. Contact her at sofia.origanti@slu.edu or visit her lab's website at origantilab.org.
Her research highlights include elucidating eIF6 dynamics in ribosome assembly, Aurora B-RPA signaling in chromosome segregation, and novel methods for monitoring RPA and SBDS proteins. While no specific awards are listed, her contributions to ribosomal biology and cancer mechanisms are evident in her peer-reviewed publications.
