Dr. Smita Guha is a tenured Full Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at St. John’s University’s School of Education in New York. She holds a Ph.D. in Elementary Education from SUNY Buffalo, alongside advanced degrees in English from the University of Calcutta. Her work focuses on preparing teachers in health, math, and science education, with a particular emphasis on STEM and early childhood education. She has authored four books, including Critical Literacy for Socio-Emotional Learning, and contributed to peer-reviewed journals like Young Children and Science and Children.
Dr. Guha has received numerous accolades, including the Fulbright US Scholar Award and community service recognitions from New York State and NYC. She founded an after-school program to strengthen family-school-community partnerships and has worked with underprivileged families in homeless shelters in the US and India. Her professional development initiatives include leading teacher exchanges in Italy and France.
