Sjoerd Beugelsdijk is the J. Willis Cantey Chair and Professor of International Business and Economics at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. He holds an honorary chair at the University of Groningen and has held visiting roles at institutions like Copenhagen Business School and Bocconi University. His research focuses on economic globalization, cultural diversity, and institutional differences, with over 50 peer-reviewed articles and five books, including the popular De Verdeelde Nederlanden (2021). Beugelsdijk has supervised 10 PhD students and serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Business Studies.
Education: PhD in Economics (Tilburg University, 2003), M.S. in Economics (Tilburg University, 1999). Recognitions include Fellow of the Academy of International Business (2020), AIB Silver Medal (2019), and membership in the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (2023). He has secured over €1.3 million in research grants and advised governments, NGOs, and multinational corporations.
Research interests span cultural and institutional impacts on business strategies, global supply chains, and societal polarization. His work has influenced UN reports and Dutch national policy. Teaching excellence recognized at three universities. Key publications include seminal studies on cultural distance, entrepreneurial behavior, and institutional frameworks.
