Sjaak Neefjes is Professor of Chemical Immunology at Leiden University and head of the Department of Cell and Chemical Biology at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC). He is an NWO Spinoza Prize laureate (2020), recognized for his interdisciplinary research bridging chemistry, cell biology, and immunology to develop cancer therapies with reduced side effects.
His work focuses on chemical immunology and cell biology, particularly modifying anthracycline-based cancer drugs to minimize toxicity while maintaining efficacy. This research combines collaboration with chemists like Hermen Overkleeft and clinical applications at LUMC.
