Siobhan Keenan is Professor of Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature at De Montfort University, affiliated with the School of Humanities within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. She is an active researcher and teacher with a focus on early modern English literature, theatre history, and manuscript studies.
Her educational background includes a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Cambridge (1994), an MA and PhD in English Literature from the University of Warwick (1996, 2000), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2001). She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Swansea University (1995).
Her research interests center on Shakespeare, Renaissance drama, theatre history, early modern women’s writing, royal progresses, and manuscript drama. She has published extensively in these areas, including major monographs such as Travelling Players in Shakespeare’s England (2002), Acting Companies and Their Plays in Shakespeare’s London (2014), The Progresses, Processions, and Royal Entries of King Charles I, 1625–1642 (2020), and a forthcoming book on Richard Burbage (2025). She has also edited several early modern plays for the Malone Society.
Her recent publications reflect a sustained engagement with topics such as Richard Burbage, Tudor and Stuart royal players, political satire in manuscript drama, and the cultural significance of royal ceremonial. These works demonstrate a strong trend toward archival research, textual editing, and performance history, particularly in provincial and manuscript contexts.

She has also contributed to public scholarship through media appearances, BBC consultancy, and public lectures.
She is a member of the Centre for Adaptations and Centre for Textual Studies at DMU and contributes to the Institute of Global Challenges and Cultures. Her work bridges academic research, public engagement, and pedagogical innovation.
