Simy Kaur Gahoonia is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Research Fellow) at IT University of Copenhagen's Technologies in Practice research group, specializing in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and feminist critical pedagogy. Her work examines technology comprehension in educational contexts through ethnographic and design anthropological methods, with a focus on Danish public schooling and digital labor.
Her research interests span technology comprehension, postdigital education, and the materiality of computing, emphasizing feminist and decolonial approaches to prototyping and curriculum development. She investigates how creative practices—such as poetry and metaphor—enliven labs as sites for critical pedagogy, challenging traditional 'black box' narratives in technology studies.
Gahoonia's publications (2020-2024) reveal a cohesive trajectory exploring prototyping as a tool for citizenship education and social participation, with increasing emphasis on feminist praxis and postcolonial STS frameworks. Her work bridges theoretical STS concepts with practical educational interventions, particularly in public school settings.
As a co-investigator on the Velux Foundation projects DaR (Data as Relation, 2016-2021) and WaD (Welfare after Digitalization, 2020-2023), she contributed to studies on data governance and digital welfare systems. She actively engages in academic communities through conference organization (e.g., 4S/ESOCITE 2022, DASTS Conference 2022) and international collaboration, including a visiting researcher position at Deakin University (2022).
