Simone Maghenzani is the Dame Marilyn Strathern College Associate Professor in History at the University of Cambridge and an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna’s Graduate School of History and Archaeology. He has held fellowships at Girton College since 2015 and served as Director of Studies there. His research focuses on Renaissance/Reformation history, religion in early modernity, and transnational Italian contexts. Educated at the University of Turin (BA 2008, MA 2010, PhD 2014), he has been a postdoctoral researcher at Robinson College (2014-15) and visiting scholar at institutions including the Huntington Library (CA), Newberry Library (Chicago), and Oxford’s Bodleian Library (2019-20).
His awards include the 2010 Walter Maturi Prize in History and grants from the British Academy, Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, and others. He teaches Early Modern European History (1450-1715) and Modern European History (1715-1890) at Cambridge. Recent research emphasizes transnational religious networks, Counter-Reformation governance, and the intersection of religion with nation-building processes.
