Pamela Merrill Brekka is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Florida. She holds a PhD in Art History (University of Florida, 2012) and an MA in Art History (Rutgers University, 1999). Her research focuses on Flemish and Dutch art, with specialties in Renaissance cartography, Netherlandish painting techniques, Reformation-era biblical exegesis, and Jewish constructs in early modern Europe.
Her notable publications include analyses of post-Tridentine biblical literature and Antwerp’s Polyglot Bible maps. Dr. Brekka teaches courses such as The History of Jewish Art and Dutch Baroque in the Age of Rembrandt and Vermeer. She has received prestigious awards like the Newberry Library Fellowship (2010) and University Women's Club Scholar distinction (2010).
Her work bridges art, religion, and colonial history, with a focus on visual representations of identity and power in early modern Europe. Courses emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to art history.
