Prof. Simone Hemm-Ode is a Professor in Neural Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), affiliated with the School of Life Sciences and the Institute for Medical Engineering and Medical Informatics. She holds a PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Montpellier and a Habilitation from Linköping University. Her research focuses on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), intraoperative measurement techniques, and neurotechnology. She has authored over 33 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to book chapters, posters, and oral presentations globally.
Key research interests include electric field simulations for DBS, acceleration measurements for tremor quantification, and surgical navigation systems. She has supervised 2 PhD students, 1 co-supervised PhD, and numerous master's and bachelor's students. Awards include a 2011 Poster Award from the Swiss Society of Biomedical Engineering.
Her work bridges clinical neurosurgery and engineering, addressing mechanisms of DBS action through interdisciplinary approaches. Current projects involve data management in neuroscience and probabilistic stimulation mapping. She collaborates with institutions like Linköping University and has been a guest researcher since 2010.
