Simone Cinotto

Simone Cinotto is a Professor of Modern History at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy. He serves as Director of the master’s program in World Food Studies and is a Reference Professor for Fulbright cultural exchange programs between Italy and the U.S. His research focuses on food history, migration, transatlantic consumer cultures, and modern Italian/U.S. history. Cinotto has authored/edited influential books like Gastrofascism and Empire (2024) and Soft Soil Black Grapes (2012), and his work bridges culinary practices with broader socio-political contexts.

His academic positions include Editorial Board roles at Gastronomica and Food, Culture, and Society, along with visiting professorships at institutions like Columbia University and the University of Heidelberg. Cinotto’s research projects include TT: Transatlantic Transfers, exploring Italian cultural influence in post-war America, and CEFW, addressing sustainability in wine production. His awards include the David Thelen Prize (2004) and the John G. Cawelti Award (2014).

Cinotto’s teaching covers food history, migration gastronomies, and Italian culinary cultures. He actively coordinates institutional programs like the Foundation Year and advocates for internationalization.
