Simone Caputo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Literature and Culture at Sapienza University of Rome. He teaches courses including 20th-Century Music, Music for Film and Musicals, Musical Dramaturgy II, and Outlines of the History of Music. His academic activities include regular office hours held on Tuesdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and scheduled exams throughout the academic year.
His research focuses on music in early modern and contemporary cultures, Soundscape Studies, and Music and Media Studies. His scholarly work spans a remarkable chronological range from the 16th to the 21st centuries, demonstrating exceptional versatility across historical periods and musical genres. Caputo's research examines the intersection of music with cultural, social, and political contexts across different historical periods, with particular attention to urban soundscapes and the relationship between music, place, and cultural identity.
Caputo serves as editor-in-chief of the musicological journals Il Saggiatore musicale and Chigiana. Journal of Musicological Studies. His scholarly output demonstrates a remarkable breadth, covering topics from 18th-century opera to Kendrick Lamar's hip hop, from sacred requiem masses to film music and musical instruments.
