Simon Wilkins is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the Swansea University Medical School, serving as the clinical, prescribing, and placements lead. He qualified as a pharmacist in 1999 after a pre-registration year in community pharmacy and has nearly 20 years of teaching experience across higher education, NHS, and Welsh Government sectors. His career includes roles as a Visiting Lecturer and Teacher Practitioner Pharmacist at Cardiff University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (2005–2021), alongside NHS roles such as General Practice Pharmacist and Independent Prescriber.
Education: Simon’s professional qualification includes a pharmacist pre-registration year (1999). His career highlights include leadership in pharmacy education, curriculum design, and interprofessional collaboration. He currently holds roles as an External Examiner for Non-medical Prescribing at the University of South Wales (2017–2021) and as an Expert Member of the Wales Research Ethics Committee 2 (2019–present).
Research & Teaching: His expertise spans pharmacy education, therapeutics, medicines safety, and evidence-based practice. He designs and delivers modules such as Foundations in Pharmacy, Patient-Centred Learning, and Preparation for Practice & Prescribing. His teaching interests include cardiovascular medicine, respiratory care, pain management, and prudent prescribing.
Contributions: Simon contributes to national initiatives via his role as Associate Editor Pharmacist at the Welsh Medicines Resource Centre for Medical Education. He actively engages in interprofessional education, exemplified by invited lectures at institutions like the University of Ljubljana (2019).
