Simon Schneider

Simon Schneider is a Researcher at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg's Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology, supervised by Prof. Dr. Asta Vonderau. He holds a BA in Anthropology and History (2022) and an MA in Social and Cultural Anthropology (2024) from the same university, alongside a 2018 BA in Industrial Engineering from HTWK Leipzig. His doctoral research, supported by the International Max Planck Research School, examines post-disaster reconstruction in Turkey following the 2023 earthquakes.

Research Focus: Disaster and Crisis Studies, reconstruction dynamics, anthropological value theory, and the structure-agency debate. His current project analyzes competing values in Antakya's urban reconstruction plans, exploring intersections of economic, social, and communal priorities in crisis contexts.
