Recent projects focus on climate advocacy through humanities, such as the documentary A New Peace of Münster and the Poldergeist series, examining cultural responses to climate change. Richter’s 2025 Penn Global Engagement Grant supports interdisciplinary climate work. His courses (e.g., Water Worlds, Forest Worlds, Food and Film) reflect his interests in cultural ecology.
Awarded the Max Kade Prize (1996), Richter’s scholarship spans operatic aesthetics, postcolonial literature, and cinematic figures like Lola Montez. His work intertwines literary analysis with sociocultural critique, emphasizing interdisciplinary dialogue.
