Simon Reader is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the City University of New York (CUNY). He specializes in Victorian literature and aesthetics, particularly focusing on minor genres such as notes, fragments, and aphorisms. His research explores how these forms challenge traditional literary structures. He currently serves as president of the Northeast Victorian Studies Association and co-convenes the CUNY Victorian Seminar at the Graduate Center.
Reader holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Toronto (2014) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University (2014-2015). His first monograph, *Notework: Victorian Literature and Nonlinear Style* (Stanford UP, 2021), received an Honorable Mention for the Sonya Rudikoff Award. His scholarship spans literary theory, queer studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to print culture.
Recent publications include explorations of Roland Barthes’s engagement with fragments and a forthcoming analysis of 'bitchiness' in academic discourse. His work often bridges historical texts with contemporary critical frameworks, emphasizing the dynamic between form and meaning.
In addition to his academic roles, Reader actively participates in professional organizations and scholarly networks across North America.
