Simon Liu is an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Art at Cooper Union. Born between Hong Kong and Stoke-On-Trent, UK, he lives in Brooklyn and focuses on experimental film and media art. His work has been showcased globally at institutions like M+ Museum, SFMoMA, and the Whitney Museum, emphasizing interdisciplinary practices.
Education: BFA in Film & Television Production from New York University (NYU).
Research interests include experimental cinema, cultural narrative exploration, and the intersection of art with historical memory. Current projects include the feature film Staffordshire Hoord and a non-fiction work tracing an ancestor’s transcontinental journey from Guangzhou to Amsterdam.
Awards: 2019 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow and 2018 NYSCA/Wave Farm Media Arts Assistance Fund recipient. Active in Negativeland, an artist-run film lab.
Grants: Secured support through NYSCA/Wave Farm for media arts projects. Collaborates with institutions like the China Central Academy of Fine Art and Yale University.
