Simon Jones

Professor Simon Jones serves as the Dean for Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), overseeing the academic partnership with the University of Liverpool. His role focuses on enhancing educational quality, fostering research collaboration, and developing programs across Engineering, Science, Health Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences. He collaborates closely with senior leaders from both institutions to advance academic excellence and student pathways.

His research interests span microbiology, organic chemistry, and drug discovery, with a focus on bacterial cell wall dynamics, anti-inflammatory compounds, and asymmetric synthesis methodologies.

His publications demonstrate a focus on interdisciplinary research, combining microscopy techniques with molecular biology to study bacterial mechanisms, and exploring novel chemical synthesis pathways for pharmaceutical applications. He has contributed to advancements in understanding Staphylococcus aureus pathogenesis, Clostridium difficile biogenesis, and the development of anti-inflammatory agents using zebrafish models.
