Simon Ivar Andersen is a Professor (MSO) and Research Director at the Laboratory for Off-Shore Production Sciences, part of the Danish Offshore Technology Centre at Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental protection and sustainable energy. He holds a PhD and has been active in research since 1986.
His research focuses on petroleum asphaltenes, crude oil behavior, methane leakage, and environmental impacts of offshore energy production. Current projects include the SEAL project (methane leakage detection) and FOMO (fiber-optic marine pollutant monitoring). He leads the long-term phase behavior of petroleum asphaltene research program.
Key contributions include advancements in oil-water partitioning analysis, oil droplet stability in capillaries, and fluorescence-based sensing technologies for oil-in-water detection. Andersen has presented at international conferences and collaborates globally on marine pollution and renewable energy impact studies.
He oversees interdisciplinary teams and has pioneered technologies like the ARROiW fluorescence sensor for real-time oil-in-water monitoring. His work bridges chemical engineering, environmental science, and offshore technology to address energy sector challenges sustainably.
