Simon's research focuses on agricultural economics with particular emphasis on irrigation technology expansion in Ethiopia. He employs both meta-analysis of household farm irrigation technologies and CGE-modeling to analyze national irrigation policies. His work investigates differences in technical efficiency between irrigating and non-irrigating farmers, and assesses the impact of irrigation technology diffusion on agricultural production, household incomes, and international trade in Ethiopia. His expertise spans agricultural policy analysis, trade modeling using general equilibrium models, and scenario analysis.
Simon has contributed to research on global agri-food sector implications of geopolitical events, including the war in Ukraine, and has published in the German Journal of Agricultural Economics and Rural21. His methodological approach combines quantitative economic modeling with policy analysis to address food security and trade issues.
