Emmanuel Namwanja is a Scientific Staff member and PhD Researcher at the International Agricultural Trade and Food Security department (490b) within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Hohenheim. He works in the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics (Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute) and is based in Stuttgart, Germany.
His research focuses on sustainable food systems transformation in Africa, with particular emphasis on policy analysis, international trade, and evidence-based decision making. Namwanja investigates the resilience of agrifood ecosystems to economic and physical shocks, sustainable pathways for food systems, and the role of international trade policies in food security.
Namwanja is actively involved in the StEPPFoS project (Strengthening Evidence-Based Policy and Practice for Sustainable Food Systems Under the EU-AU Partnership), which is funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe program (2024-2027). This project aims to promote policy coherence across African Union structures and improve science-based decision-making processes for agricultural and food policies in Africa.
Working within a multidisciplinary research group, he collaborates with colleagues including Dr. Kirsten Boysen-Urban, Dr. Dorothee Flaig, and other team members to develop and apply economic models, conduct participatory approaches, and implement co-creative methods to analyze sustainable food system pathways.
