Dr. Dorothee Flaig is a Researcher at the University of Hohenheim's International Agricultural Trade and Food Security Department (490b) since 2018. She teaches at both master and bachelor levels and conducts independent research focusing on climate-related policies, sustainable agricultural production, and food security in Africa. Her work employs computable general equilibrium (CGE) models to analyze trade-offs between SDGs and evaluate policy impacts. Key competencies include single-country and global CGE modeling, with a focus on global value chains (GVCs) and migration studies.
- Education: PhD in Agricultural Sciences (University of Hohenheim, 2014), specializing in CGE modeling of labor mobility in Palestine-Israel. M.Sc. equivalent in Economics with a focus on international trade and developing country agricultural economies.
- Previous Roles: 5 years at OECD (2013–2018) developing global trade CGE models and analyzing trade restrictions. Research assistant at Hohenheim (2009–2013) focusing on Palestinian-Israeli labor market integration.
Research Interests: Climate policies, food security, migration in Africa, and the economic implications of trade policies. Her work bridges theoretical modeling (CGE) with real-world policy analysis, particularly in developing countries.
Current Projects: Leading the StEPPFoS EU-AU partnership project (2024–2027) to enhance evidence-based agri-food policies in Africa. Co-leads research on destination-based carbon pricing impacts in India (ERCST-funded, 2025).
