Simon Davies

Simon Davies is a Professor of Contrabassoon at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), a position he has held since 2017. He is also a contrabassoonist with the Hallé Orchestra and previously with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. His career includes collaborations with major orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra.

Education: B.Mus (Hons) and PPRNCM diplomas in solo playing and chamber music from RNCM, studying under Alan Pendlebury, David Chatwin, and Nick Lander. Member of the wind quintet Northerly Winds during his studies.

Teaching roles include tutoring contrabassoon and bassoon at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Performance highlights include a BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Erwin Schulhoff’s Bassnachtigall with Ensemble 360.
