Simon Chin-Yee

Simon Chin-Yee is a Lecturer (Teaching) in the Department of Political Science at University College London (UCL), School of Public Policy. With 20 years of experience in international cooperation and policy, he combines academic research with active involvement in UN Climate Change Conferences (COPs) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

His research focuses on:

• Climate change policy in African and small island developing states
• Maritime sector decarbonization
• Climate justice and human security
• Global environmental regimes and negotiation mechanisms
• Policy advisor roles in international climate finance

Recent publications examine:

• IMO negotiation dynamics (2023-2024)
• COP27/COP28 carbon footprint analysis

• African climate diplomacy

Scientific awards include the Konrad Adenauer Fellowship (KAS) for European Energy and Resources Security Centre. He supervises PhD students and PGT/UG dissertation supervisees in environmental and climate change politics, with collaborations spanning the World Bank, UN Foundation, and African governments.
