Simon Banks is the Vice Dean (Education) within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences and holds the title of Professor of Natural Sciences Education at King’s College London’s Department of Chemistry. He completed his MSci and PhD in chemistry at University College London (UCL), followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford (2005–2007), where he was awarded the British Ramsay Memorial Fellowship. His career transitioned to education leadership roles, including Deputy Head (Education) at UCL’s Department of Chemistry, Director of Education in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, and Faculty Tutor before joining King’s in 2024.
His research integrates theoretical chemistry with statistical mechanics and quantum dynamics, focusing on classical model magnets’ emergent phenomena and polyatomic molecular collisions. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, emphasizing education policy and strategy.
