Professor Sima Dimitrijev is a distinguished academic in the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Griffith University, specializing in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a focus on semiconductor devices. She is currently a member of the Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Research Institute (QUATRI) and the Queensland Micro and Nanotechnology Centre (until 2024). Her extensive career at Griffith University spans over two decades, beginning in 2002, and she has established herself as a leading researcher in silicon carbide technology and power electronics.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Engineering (1982), Master of Science (1985), and Doctor of Philosophy (1989), all from the University of Nis. Before joining academia, she worked as a Development Engineer at a Semiconductor Factory in the Electronics Industry from 1982 to 1983.
Professor Dimitrijev's research interests center around semiconductor devices, particularly silicon carbide technology. Her work spans design, fabrication, and characterization of semiconductor devices, power-electronic circuits, silicon-carbide Schottky diodes, MOS capacitors, and MOSFETs, as well as AlGaN/GaN High-Electron Mobility Transistors for power applications. Her research has significant implications for sustainable development goals including Sustainable Cities and Communities, Good Health and Well Being, and Affordable and Clean Energy.
Her research output is substantial, with over 180 peer-reviewed journal papers across diverse areas from crystal growth to cognitive memory networks. Her publications reveal a consistent focus on silicon carbide devices, with recent work examining interface traps, device reliability, and power conversion efficiency. Her articles demonstrate a progression from fundamental semiconductor physics to practical power electronics applications.
Professor Dimitrijev has been actively involved in numerous funded research projects, with grants from the Australian Research Council, Department of Education, and industry partners. Her current projects include the Quantum and Advanced Technologies Commercialisation Infrastructure Program and research on advanced silicon carbide transistor prototypes. She has supervised over 20 doctoral students, many of whom have focused on silicon carbide devices and power electronics.
