Silvia Alende Castro

Silvia Alende Castro serves as a Part-Time Adjunct Professor in the Department of Developmental Psychology and Communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, University of Vigo. She is actively affiliated with the CS1 Research Group in Communication and maintains her primary academic base at the Pontevedra campus.

She earned her Doctorate from the University of Vigo in 2015 with a dissertation titled Periodismo de prevención en Galicia: el concepto de comunicación útil en la prensa diaria de ámbito local (Preventive Journalism in Galicia: The Concept of Useful Communication in Local Daily Press), supervised by Dr. José David Urchaga Litago and Dr. Aurora García González.

Her research centers on Journalism and Communication with specialized focus on Preventive Journalism and Useful Communication frameworks within local media ecosystems. Her work critically examines how communication serves practical societal functions, particularly through the lens of developmental psychology applied to media consumption patterns. This interdisciplinary approach bridges media theory with psychological communication models to analyze local press efficacy.

Dr. Alende Castro contributes to the CS1 Research Group in Communication through collaborative projects analyzing regional media practices, with emphasis on Galician journalistic traditions and community-oriented communication strategies.
