Silas Nicholls is a Professor of Leadership and Healthcare Management at the University of Bolton's Institute of Medicine. He concurrently serves as Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Chief Executive at University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) and has been the Chief Executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since January 2024. With over two decades of NHS leadership experience, Nicholls began his career as a graduate management trainee and has held roles spanning health commissioning, community services management, and hospital leadership.
His academic and professional focus centers on leadership development, diversity, inclusion, and equality in healthcare. He chairs the North West Leadership Academy, emphasizing managerial excellence and career progression for leaders. Nicholls advocates for equitable practices to empower leaders across healthcare systems.
