Prof Michael Nicholl is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, and currently serves as Chief Executive of the Clinical Excellence Commission, NSW Health. He holds MBBS, MBA, and PhD qualifications, with fellowships from the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Rtd), Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and other health management organizations.
His research focuses on maternal health, healthcare resilience, risk intelligence, and policy implementation. Key areas include stillbirth prevention, antenatal care practices, and pregnancy-associated cancer management. Prof Nicholl has led major initiatives like the Safer Baby Bundle program to reduce stillbirth rates and improve clinical guidelines across NSW hospitals.
He has authored over 50 publications on obstetrics, healthcare quality, and perinatal outcomes. Notable grants include projects on optimizing planned birth timing and vaccine efficacy in pregnant women. His 2017 award recognized leadership in healthcare risk management.
