Sigrun Halvorsen

Sigrun Halvorsen is a Professor in the Department of Cardiology at the University of Oslo, affiliated with Oslo University Hospital Ullevål. She serves as Head of the Department of Cardiology and holds leadership roles in the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), including Treasurer of the Acute CardioVascular Care Association (ACVC) and Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal. Her academic background includes a Medical Doctorate (1995) and Cand.med (1983) from the University of Oslo, alongside specialist training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Her research focuses on acute myocardial infarction management, anti-thrombotic strategies, lipid-lowering therapies, and atrial fibrillation screening. She leads major trials like the BETAMI trial and the NORSCREEN self-screening initiative. Key contributions include ESC clinical guidelines on cardiovascular care during surgery, cardio-oncology, and cardiogenic shock in women.
